species guide

angels

'original' angels are either created and have been around since the dawn of time, or are reborn. angels are connected to the air and to light, so their powers are based around those mostly. they are said to have very calming presences and it's somewhat hard to be upset around an angel. however, they are very weak against darkness and shadows and if an angel is upset, then the people around them can feel it. they have very strong emotions, sometimes so much so that they are palpable. angels can also have powers revolving around emotions and empathy. their wings are equipped for flight and can be many different shades of white, grey, or even black. their wings are not always present unless the angel wills them to be or doesn't have the energy to keep them invisible. because of most angel's affinity for light, they will oftentimes glow in the dark.

angels are oftentimes weak to emotion control. they can also be turned by vampires or shifters, but the vampire/shifter that does the deed has to be experienced, or else the angel will turn into a halfling, rather than a full-blooded vampire/shifter. angels can be entranced by sirens but it will take a lot of work to do the job. angels are strong against powers that deal with probability--karma, luck, etc.

demons

'original' demons are direct descendants of those horrible creatures you read about in myth and legend. demons have deep connections to darkness and night, not to mention fire. they are, most often, immune to cold weather and oftentimes have high temperatures. demons can possess wings, but most do not. in the event they do, the wings are either inefficient for flight, or deformed in some way. in the rare occurrences that their wings are suitable for flying, they appear as dragon-like appendages with sharp bones and thick membranes. because of demon's affinity for the dark, they have excellent night-vision.

demons are sometimes weaker during the day. demons cannot be turned by vampires or shifters. demons can be entranced by sirens, but it will take a lot of work to really do the job. demons are strong against any powers that deal with the mind and hypnosis.

vampires

vampires can be born or created. those that are created are oftentimes not as strong as those that are born. vampires are inherently sexual creatures, so their powers often deal with seduction, but also with the elements--mostly fire or shadows--and hypnosis. vampires are susceptible to light, though it will not kill them. they need blood to survive, but are free to eat regular food, it just doesn't fill them up like blood does. vampires don't really need to sleep very much, but they prefer to do it during the day--though that is nearly impossible when schooling is involved. young and fledgling vampires feel no effect when out during the day and will proceed to live on a normal life-cycle. young and fledgling vampires are attached to their sires, potentially, for the rest of their lives. they can break free from their sires after a time. fledgling vampires go through a painful process in order to make the full transition to a vampire that will only last for, perhaps, a day or two wherein their sire's saliva acts as a poison, infecting them and stopping their hearts. they will remain 'dead' for a brief period before awakening as one of the 'undead'.

older vampires are weak during the day. vampires are susceptible to light based powers and any powers having to do with biological manipulation. they are also immune to siren's charms.

shapeshifters

shapeshifters are a very broad term used to describe those that can change their form to that of any animal in the world. they only change into one animal, but it may be any animal in the world. werewolves have been shuffled into this category over the years. depending on what a person shifts into, their abilities follow suit. if you shift into a wolf you may be very fast and agile. if you shift into a robin, then you may have a beautiful singing voice. shifters are always more powerful than every other species except for demons. shifters normally have elemental based powers, but also ones relating to nature--such as talking to plants and animals. shifters can only talk to other shifters while in their animal form, they cannot talk to any other being unless said being can speak to animals.

shifters are some of the physically strongest creatures around. they are not particularly susceptible to any one thing and their weaknesses are pretty even around the board. they are strong against powers concerning biological manipulation. they are not immune to siren's charms, but they can be strong against them.

faeries

the older faeries are ones that were born in the faerie realm, which is a realm separate from our own. realm-hopping is a trait specifically given to faeries, the young ones--born of this realm--just don't know they have it. all faeries have a deep connection to nature and have powers based around it--talking to plants and animals, a green thumb, and the ability to shift and change the earth. it's the advanced ones that cause earthquakes and the like. faeries do have wings and they will range in size and stability, but every faerie is able to fly. they are also able to shrink their size at will. faeries are unable to be turned by vampires or shifters. they are also weak against the fire element as well

as gravity based magick and sometimes weather control.

sirens

the sirens of today are a bit different from those of legend, but in essence they are the same. sirens are among the most alluring species. they are known for their powers of seduction and hypnotic abilities. they are also known for having an affinity for water. sirens are often very vain because of the fact they are considered very beautiful creatures.

sirens can be turned by vampires and shifters, but the creature that does the turning has to be experienced, or the siren will turn into a halfling, rather than full-blooded vampire/shifter. they are weak against powers concerning the earth. sirens are not affected by each other's charms, but they can be affected by vampire's charms.

valkyrie

valkyries were first assumed to be just a legend, but they date back thousands of years. valkyries can either be born of two valkyries (sometimes even if one parent is a valkyrie, the genes will be dominant) or reborn as one. born valkyries are mostly female, but reborn valkyries can be both genders. valkyries are attracted to violence as well as death. they possess wings and can fly with them. said wings are something similar to those of a hawk, or falcon, with sharp angles and a powerful structure. valkyries are often the best fighters around due to their legend. they have two powers that are specific to their species--supreme judgement and sacrifice. their ability to judge is what makes them valkyries, and they can see the past deeds or misdeeds of any given person on their death-bed. sacrifice is just as it sounds--they can sacrifice themselves to save another being. clearly it is one use only and most valkyries don't know they possess this ability.

valkyries cannot be turned by vampires or shifters. they are not particularly weak against much of anything and, like shifters, they are pretty even across the board. valkyries can be charmed by sirens and vampires depending on the state of their mental facilities--normally, the older the valkyrie, the harder a siren/vampire has to work. valkyries are another of the strongest species around.

elves

elves are immortal and the cousins to faeries and, as such, they share many of the same characteristics with the only difference being that they lack wings. elves have a deep connection to nature as well as art and music; they are often some of the most creative creatures on the planet. they generally have powers concerning nature as well as illusion, auditory and visual manipulation. elves are only born and cannot be 'created'. not all elves maintain the pointed ears that they are born with and it is, in fact, something that can be changed and 'normalized'. however, pointed ears are a sign of pride in their elven heritage. elves can be very mischievous, very intelligent, very talented, however, not all elves share this stereotype. as well, not all elves are skilled archers or trackers. contrary to popular belief and fantasy misconception, they do not have their own language.

elves usually use their intelligence and tactical skills to their advantage, making them, mentally, stronger than some species, but physically, they are fairly neutral. they are weak against fire based magic as well as darkness/shadow based magic. they usually have strong mental facilities and don't normally fall prey to mental attacks or seduction attempts.

gifted humans

humans are mortal. they can possess any power that there is, save for seduction and the ability to shift into an animal. their powers are weaker compared to the more dominant species.

humans can be turned by vampries and shifters. they are weak against siren's and vampire's charms. they are also susceptible to being influenced by demons and angels. depending on the human, they can be strong against powers that affect the mind.

halflings

halflings are oftentimes considered 'dirty' because of their mingling blood. halflings possess the attributes of whatever species they are--for example, faerie and angel--in a weakened state. therefore, a halfling faerie/angel will be able to hear plants but not speak with them, and they can manipulate existing air currents but not create them. halflings that are half human are the weakest of all. sometimes the mix of species will be an unfit match and, therefore, a person's powers will be very erratic. there can be no halflings with half ancient, valkyrie or legendary blood.

depending on what two species make up a halfling, they can or cannot be weak to sirens. a halfling can't be turned by a vampire or shifter. halflings can have just about any power there is, but at a weakened level. most of the time they can be charmed by siren's and vampires.

ancients

ancients are the term given to the dragons. granted, they can shift into a human form, but it takes s few years to master. ancients can control any element, but it is the oldest ones that can truly master the skill. they can fly--when in dragon form--as well. most ancients are also attracted to gold and treasure. ancients are the most physically strong creatures around. depending on what their one element is--for example, if the ancient wields fire it would be weak against water--they are susceptible to their opposite; light and shadow, water and fire, etc. there is a point on every ancient that is their weak point--the plate of scales that lies directly over their heart is oftentimes softer than anywhere else. ancients also do not get a shadow companion and they cannot be halfling, as they cannot breed with any other species.

legendaries

RESEARCH YOUR LEGENDARY! you're ONLY going to have powers and whatnot BASED ON THE LEGEND. for example: eleionomae were ONLY FEMALE and had POWERS OF SEDUCTION AND ILLUSION. i do a lot of research myself, so i'm going to know whether you're messing something up. if you want to bend the rules of something you MUST, MUST, MUST PM ME! i won't allow too much leeway with this, as there are TONS of legendary creatures you can choose to be. for all your legendary reading material, please refer to the giant lists HERE. if you find a legendary that IS NOT there, you'll need to provide me with information about that creature and whatnot before i'll accept you using it. we will not accent gods, goddesses, or demigods. if you want to make someone like hercules/heracles, he must be some other species and he will NOT be a demigod.

for things that have an animal form, they CAN shift into that form. griffins, for example, can shift into a creature with the torso of a lion and head of an bird, but also have a human form. this goes for any legendary with an animal form.

like ancients, legendaries do not get a shadow companion. as well, legendaries cannot be halflings. if one parent is a legendary, either the children will be a legendary or the species of the other parent.
